Cooling Water Chemical

Cooling Water Chemical

Cooling Water Chemicals are specially formulated additives used in cooling systems (like cooling towers, chillers, and heat exchangers) to control scale, corrosion, microbiological growth, and fouling. These chemicals help maintain system efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and extend equipment life.

Common Types:

1. Scale Inhibitors

Prevent formation of calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and silica scale.

Common chemicals: Polyphosphates, phosphonates, and polymers.

2. Corrosion Inhibitors

Protect metal surfaces (steel, copper, aluminum) from corrosion.

Common chemicals: Zinc, molybdate, phosphate blends, azoles (e.g., tolyltriazole).

3. Biocides & Algaecides

Control bacterial and algal growth, including Legionella.

Two types: Oxidizing (chlorine, bromine) and non-oxidizing (isothiazolinone, glutaraldehyde).

4. Dispersants

Help remove suspended solids, sludge, and biofilms.

Improve chemical penetration and heat transfer.

5. pH Adjusters

Maintain optimal pH range for chemical effectiveness and metal protection.

Includes acids (e.g., sulfuric acid) or alkalis (e.g., sodium hydroxide).
